Snow covered slopes have always been a paradise for skiers. Skiing is a popular winter adventure sport for people who take pleasure in speeding down ice covered mountain paths.

Skiing is an expensive sport, as the gear that is required is quite costly. The most important equipment are ski goggles, as they play the role of eyes in determining the path in skiing.

Ski goggles are made of a semi elastic material, like rubber, so that in case of a collision the goggles bend and do not injure your cheek bone. Ski goggles have an attached elastic strap so that it perfectly fits the skier and prevents them from falling off while skiing. Ski goggles undergo chemical treatment, which makes the lenses water resistant and this further helps in reducing fogging.

During skiing, you are constantly slapped by ice, wind, snow, rocks etc. Therefore, you need some kind of protection for your eyes so that you can see through the whole event. Ski goggles are required for the purpose of protecting your eyes from harsh weather conditions.

While choosing ski goggles, you should choose those goggles which are not only good looking, but also have all the required features to protect your eyes.

Before buying a pair of ski goggles, always check if they offer UV protection or not. Ultra violet rays are quite harmful to the eyes, as they tend to burn the cornea causing cataracts and other eye problems. Skiers are more vulnerable to UV rays as they are reflected off the snow.

The ski goggles should have anti-fog and ventilation attributes. They should have tiny holes in them to aid circulation, which keeps the eyes refreshed and also reduces fogging and makes it easier for skiers to concentrate on the path. Ski goggles come in many tints and colours, and each tint has a different function. Light coloured lenses allow more light to enter while more light is blocked in dark coloured lenses.

Lenses with a bronze tint are the best at providing protection against UV rays; they are multifunctional and can be worn both in sunny and cloudy conditions. Chrome tinted lenses are better suited for bright sunlight conditions. Clear lenses are used in bad weather conditions like blizzards and snow storms, as they allow better visibility.

Nowadays you can get ski goggles with polarised lenses. Polarised lenses have an added advantage for skiers as they stop light reflected off snow, which many skiers find bothersome. However it has a major drawback too; with polarised lenses it is impossible for the skier to see ice patches, which can be very dangerous.

For skiers who wear glasses for corrective vision, there are some ski goggle models that allow the skier to wear spectacles under them. There are manufacturers that provide ski goggles with vision correcting lenses, but they are quite expensive.

Ski Goggles are an essential gear for skiing as it helps in protecting eyes from extreme weather conditions like snow, heavy rain or hail. Selecting a proper lens for your ski goggles completes 80% of the task.

Why not? Ski Instructor courses are an excellent way for people to stay involved within the sport and make a career out of it too. Now if you’re a recreational skier, but you fancy taking the plunge into the realms of instruction then you will need to get qualified – and to do this you need to choose a ski instructor course.

So who chooses ski instructor courses? Anyone that wants to make a career out of performing their favourite sport. If you’re a student on a gap year or someone that just wants a career break or even career change, then becoming a ski instructor is an ideal opportunity – and the benefits are huge.

In order to become a ski instructor, you need to get qualified, and to do that you need to go on a ski instructor course. These are varied and there are plenty of companies that can offer you a good deal.

However you need to make sure of a few things before jumping in and joining the first ski instructor course that you see.

First of all you need to make sure that the course actually rewards successful completion with an accredited qualification. This can be either the Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance (CSIA) level one, or the New Zealand Snowsports Instructor Alliance (NZSIA) level one. There are also the British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) and Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA), both offering level one instructor courses. These beginner qualifications will allow any successful qualifier to obtain work anywhere in the world.

Now it is also recommended not to rest on your laurels, and anyone should look to obtain further qualifications as soon as possible as this will give you greater recognition within the industry and will allow you to instruct to a more technical level. A level 2 qualification with any of the abovementioned alliances is perfect, and these can be obtained through various ski instructor courses.

The next thing that you need to consider is employability. Do the course providers have post qualification support in obtaining employment? Some courses do, and will allow you to work at the ski resort that you gained your qualification. Others will provide a comprehensive list of resorts and places to work. It’s something that you need to consider when taking on an instructor’s course.

Depending on the course that you choose you can find yourself on a two week, three week, 10 week or a season long training course. Each will vary in what they offer and it really depends on what your needs are, but crucially you need to aim for a qualification and if you’re looking for season work, then you need to start looking and enquiring about work.

So, what are the benefits of becoming a ski instructor? Well as mentioned it is invaluable to your career progression, especially if you are on a gap year. Plenty of students take gap years, and most travel along the same well trodden paths. This doesn’t say much to a prospective employer other than they’ve had a long holiday. With ski instruction, this shows a variety of employable traits and skills such as confidence, being proactive, communication skills and working to timelines, deadlines and sometimes under pressure.

Furthermore, you will get to meet a wide variety of people, sometimes even making best friends. You will get to travel to some beautiful places, offering some of the best scenery from around the world. But finally, the reason you should choose a ski instructor course, is because being a ski instructor is just a really awesome job – after all you get paid to do what you love – ski.

Vincent Rogers is a freelance writer who writes for a number of UK businesses. He recommends SnowSkool who offer a variety of skiing courses, including a skiing instructor course

Article by Jason Martinez

Many people own digital photo frames, whether buying it themselves or being given it as a gift by others. But not everyone knows how to get the most from their digital frames; here we examine how you should be using your frame for best effect.

Buy a memory card.

Internal memories of digital photo frames can be quite small and limit the amount of photos that you can have stored quite considerably. For anyone purchasing a digital photo frame it makes sense for them to also invest in a memory card to boost the number of photos available at any one time.

Ensure that it fits your decor.

Digital frames are now no longer limited to one or two options, but come in a vast selection of colors and sizes. A digital photo frame should fit in with the color scheme and decoration of the room it is in, and become an added attraction of it, not something that stands out like a sore thumb.

Adjust the brightness and settings

Most frames come with buttons on the frame to increase how bright the display is; some frames also come with other display controls. Don’t be afraid to play with it to make sure that you have the right setting for the look of your room and to give the best possible viewing of your photos.

Set up a slideshow

One of the major advantages of having a digital photo frame is that you are able to rotate the pictures that it shows. Most digital frames allow you to easily set up a slideshow. Rather than just using a random collection of pictures you should look at setting up a slideshow of related pictures to create a theme. Perhaps one day you can base the theme around a family members wedding, another around a skiing trip etc. By varying it the photos will give you constant reminders of happy times.

Connect to online photo sharing sites

If you have a wireless digital photo frame then you can use it to connect to photo sharing sites on the internet (there are plenty of free ones). This can be a real benefit when you have family living away as they can update that site with new photos of the family on a regular basis, giving you a constant stream of updated family images, helping you feel closer to their growth and development.

Learn all its features

Very few people who own digital photo frames take the time to learn all its features. Many frames have a large number of features that don’t get used. So take time to look through your frame and familiarize yourself with all its features.

Things like cropping, zoom, RSS feeds, video and audio displays etc are all much underutilized, and I am sure that you can think of a few ways they can help make the most of your digital photo frame.

As you can see there are plenty of methods of making the most of the frame, and it is entirely dependent on how you want to interact with the frame, or not as the case may be. But these examples should give you plenty of food for thought.
