Lifestyle
Imagine waking up surrounded by the most picturesque scenery in the world. Imagine working all day on top of beautiful mountains looking out to such scenery. Imagine working with some of the most inspiring and friendly individuals whilst meeting some memorable people too.
Imagine spending your days working and having fun at the same time. Okay, it’s time to stop imagining and start believing, this could be your lifestyle, and this could be you if you wanted to become a skiing instructor.
Gap years
Gap years are great; they give students or professionals the time to take stock of what they have achieved and focus on what they want to do next. If you’re in this scenario, then you’re probably considering either a gap year or a couple of months away from work or studying. You could choose the well trodden paths of travelers, but then again you could always do something different.
Why not spend a year working as a ski instructor? This way you get the beauty of travelling, and everything that comes with it i.e. meeting new people, having a good time and making lasting memories, but you can also earn money along the way and also learn valuable skills. Oh and you will also improve your skiing too.
Friendships
Ski resorts all over the world are home to some friendly faces. Now depending what you want out of your stay, there are different resorts for different people. Some are littered with bars, some restaurants and others contain both. Some resorts are catered for families, whilst others are catered for the young. Either way, everyone is there to enjoy themselves.
Working as an instructor will give you direct access to a variety of different people each day, whether its colleagues, other staff working in the resort, or the people you instruct. Along the way you’re going to meet some interesting people and make lasting friendships.
Career
Whether you are looking for work as a short term solution or fancy making a career out of it, you should become a ski instructor, or at least consider it as an option. The money isn’t great to start off with, but it’s up to you to network and establish yourself as an excellent instructor. The more you work, the more you will build up a reputation.
By working at various resorts you will start to network with various other skiers and instructors. Being on the piste and building a name for yourself will lend well when building a client base. In terms of a career progression, instruction is really only the start of it. You could end up managing or owning your own resort or company providing lessons. With skiing the world is your oyster.
So if you’re considering it, then to become a ski instructor you need to make sure that you are fully qualified. Becoming qualified is the start of your adventure, this in itself will set you up to instruct for a ski season or ski seasons. There are plenty of ski instructor courses out there, but you need to make sure that you choose wisely, find one that will give you full certification and the best possibility for employment thereafter.
